2017 MCAT Exam Dates Are Posted

Need to know MCAT exam dates for 2017? You've come to the right place. Here's where you can find MCAT dates along with the MCAT score release date too.

MCAT Exam Dates Calendar with Stethoscope

The MCAT is offered 25 times in 2017.

Ideally, you want to pick a time that allows for your MCAT score to be returned before you submit your medical school application in June.

It will take approximately 30 to 35 days after your MCAT exam date for your score to be released.

Looking at the calendar this means May 19, 2017 will be the latest day you can take your MCAT and still get your MCAT score back in time to apply to medical schools when they start taking applications.

There's no deadline per se but you do want to apply early to improve your chances of getting into medical school.

MCAT Test Time

It looks like in 2017 your exam test times are limited.

Now you can only take the MCAT at 8:00 a.m. local time.

Knowing this tidbit of info I encourage you to take your practice exams at 8:00 a.m. so you can simulate test day as much as possible.

Personally, I'm not a morning person so I would not be a fan of this at all. But after medical school and especially surgery rotations I have no problem getting up very early.

Why You Need to Plan Your MCAT Exam Date Ahead of Time

Another curveball thrown your way by the AAMC is that there will be no MCAT administrations in:

  • February 2017
  • November 2017
  • December 2017

This actually isn't too bad all things considered.

Ideally you want to target sitting for the MCAT during the Spring so you have your MCAT score report back in time to submit your medical school applications. I'm sure depending on your MCAT performance it will determine whether you apply to your "dream" schools or add in a few "safety" medical schools.

Although nothing can be taken for granted when trying to get into medical school.

Plus your MCAT scores are NOT valid forever at most medical schools. They usually have a shelf-life of 2-3 years.

For example if you take your MCAT in Nov/Dec for example as opposed to January you will have lost a year of eligibility of using your test score with the Nov/Dec test date because it would have been counted towards the previous application cycle.

This is one thing I tell students who are thinking post-bacc programs or have some additional time before they will be applying to medical school that it may be in their best interest to hold off sitting for the MCAT in the Fall and wait until the Winter/Spring.
