No Interviews Means Plan B Time

If you have applied to medical school and have been on none or very few medical school interviews it is very important that you begin to devise a plan B. Getting into medical school is tough and as January approaches your odds of gaining admission are slim.

Plan B is not something which you want to think about but it has to be done if you want to achieve your goals of becoming a doctor. You may not get admitted this year but next year can be another story.

First, you need to seriously evaluate your medical school application and understand why you have not been offered an interview and then work to correct these deficiencies for the next time you apply.

If you applied late in the application cycle, that is an easy fix, apply early! The best time to apply is June and July.

Numbers can prevent you from getting in, such as your GPA and MCAT score. The MCAT can be fixed by retaking the test and doing better, while it is harder to improve your GPA it can be done. The best way would be to apply to a post baccalaureate/master program and take additional coursework.

Lastly, if you applied without having a broad array of experiences you need to get involved in some extracurricular activities.

Doing any of the above can really improve your chances of getting into medical school, but if you simply reapply without making any significant changes then the odds are that you will have the same result as previously, being denied admission to medical school.

Osteopathic Medical School Deadlines

While the deadlines have passed for applying to medical schools awarding the M.D. degree, you can still apply to D.O. medical schools in-order to start in the Fall of 2011. Here is a listing of osteopathic medical school AACOMAS deadlines.

Keep Wounded Soldiers Moving

Here's an excellent article outlining how military physicians take care of wounded troops from the time they are injured on the battle field until they make it to secure medical facilities/hospitals.

If you've ever taken a class and wondered, "why do I have to learn this?" then you must read this story. It recounts your physiology course completely from a medical perspective as you learn about hemorrhagic shock.

Go ahead read about wounded soldiers and physiology.
