UConn has an excellent Post-Baccalaureate Program which works extensively with students to facilitate their entry into medical school. For instance, if you do well in their program by meeting certain requirements at your time of entry you may be granted a conditional acceptance into the School of Medicine.
Upon acceptance into UConn you will meet with assigned advisors at Storrs and at the Health Center to develop a suitable schedule which meets your individual needs. It should be noted those in Program B (improving academic record) will take upper-division science courses, while those in Program A (no science preparation) will take the prerequisite courses for admission to medical school.
Underrepresented minority students can elect to enroll in the full-year program where you are required to participate in two six-week summer sessions. During the first summer you will receive 120 hours of individualized coursework supplemented with informational, motivational, and enrichment experiences. You will receive instruction in the basic sciences to prepare for upper-division coursework during the academic year and preparation for the MCAT if necessary. The second summer presents a structured academic environment which resembles the first year of medical school. This pre-matriculation program will be of special interest to those individuals who have gained admission to the medical school.
Overall, there is an extensive course offering to choose from and students will have many opportunities to tailor a curriculum which will complement their needs and facilitate their success in medical school.
