Tulane University offers the 1-year Master of Biomedical Science degree with a concentration in Human Genetics through the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Department at Tulane University School of Medicine.

Structure

The program is two semesters in duration, starting in the fall semester and ending with the spring semester. To earn your Master Degree you will need to complete 30 hours of coursework and although not thesis based, write an extensive paper on a subject in the field of Human Genetics.

This biomedical science program combines clinical genetics, biochemical genetics, molecular genetics, population genetics and cytogenetics.

Eligibility

This is a graduate level program so it will be expected that you meet the requirements as such. Typically accepted applicants will have a GPA ranging from 3.3 to 3.4; GRE of 1100 to 1200; or MCAT of 27.

Admissions

This program prides itself on admitting students who not only have a strong background in the sciences, but who have performed well in their coursework.

The comments and insight found in your letters of recommendation are a very important aspect of the admissions process. Otherwise a completed application will include:

  • Official transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation (preferably science professors)
  • Standardized score reports (MCAT, GRE, etc)
  • Personal statement of career objectives (under 500 words)
  • Application fee of $40.00.

Deadline June 15th for receipt of completed applications and all supporting materials must be received by June 30th. Otherwise, applications will only be considered as space allows.
