Midwestern University MA in Biomedical Science

The Master of Arts in Biomedical Science offered by Midwestern University in Arizona is designed for students who are already good candidates for medical school, but need an additional opportunity to improve their credentials and MCAT score.

There is a guaranteed interview and acceptance to some of the affiliated professional programs.

Midwestern University makes it known that many applicants may not be accepted to medical not because they are unqualified, rather because of limited available spots.

Completing this master program will allow you to stand out when applying to medical school.

Program Focus

This program is designed for individuals who need to enhance their academic credentials before applying to medical school.

Structure

All students will complete a minimum of 45 quarter hour courses in the basic sciences and medical ethics. Students must complete the Capstone course. It is here where they will complete a scholarly literature-based thesis on a topic of your choice (generally a disease condition), followed by a presentation in a seminar format.

Each quarter students are required to take elective courses to bring their total quarter credits to 15. Electives cover a variety of disciplines; include other biomedical science courses and professional preparation courses (MCAT or PCAT Preparation, Health Career Planning, Medical Terminology, Learning Styles and Assessment, etc). The goal is to have the student improve critical thinking and study skills, while enhancing the application for professional school.

Eligibility

Midwestern University will expect that you already have a bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S) or higher, preferably in the sciences from an accredited college or university. You will also want to present a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale for all coursework which you have completed, in-order to be a serious candidate for this Biomedical Science program.

To be eligible for the Biomedical Science degree you will need to complete the typical coursework required for admission into medical, dental, or pharmacy school, which may include:

  • English Composition
  • General Chemistry w/lab
  • General Biology w/lab
  • Organic Chemistry w/lab
  • Physics w/lab
  • Mathematics (College Algebra or above)

These courses must be completed at "C" level or better ("C-" not accepted).

Admissions

Admissions are made on a rolling basis; completed applications are reviewed and decided upon throughout the application cycle.

The Master of Arts in Biomedical Science begins in Fall Quarter (late August).

To be considered for admission you must meet the following:

  • Submit two letters of recommendation or a committee letter from your college or university
  • Submit official transcripts from each college or university attended
  • Submit a score from one of the following: GRE, MCAT, PCAT, DAT or other professional admissions exam
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Agree to abide by Midwestern University's Drug Free Workplace and Substance Abuse Policy
